Last Week I'll be a Teenager.

I turn 20 in a week from today. 20!!! I'm not ready to be that old, and to no longer be a teenager. I feel like I should have it more together and more figured out by now. But that's how its been with other milestones. I thought I would have had way more figured out when I joined young women's, and then when I started high school and turned 16 and could drive, and then when I graduated, and then when I started college. But here I am in my almost third year (yikes!!) and everything is so different than I thought it would be. I've realized that you can watch people close to you accomplish things like graduation or college and think you know how it will be for you because of how it was for them, but when you actually reach that point nothing goes the way you thought. Not to say that it still isn't great, because it so is, but when you reach those points, you aren't even as old or as mature as you thought others were. Here are some pictures I found that I just really love. Sorry about the randomness and the super paragraph. Hopefully the pictures make it better.

AZ Lovin.

For those of you who don't know, Arizona has its 101st birthday last week - Valentine's day to be exact. And since then I have thought a lot about good ol' AZ and how much I miss it. I miss the sunsets. I miss the warm, and the sun, and the wedding clouds. I miss my tan. I miss sandals and sun dresses. I miss the clear blue sky. I miss palm trees, and cactuses, and rocks. I miss hot asphalt and running through the sprinklers to cool down. I miss the flat.I miss monsoons and lightning storms and always being a little bit scared the world was ending. My heart shall forever be in Arizona. Desert girl through and through.

And I love this etsy find! [hint hint mother ;)]

A, You're Adorable

So this valentine post is a little belated, but it's not very focused on the holiday, so bear with me.

The night before, my roommate was talking about a cute valentines present idea from Pinterest, which was a alphabet flip book of sweet compliments. And I said, "Oh, like the A, you're adorable song." And none of my roommates new it so I sang the whole thing from memory, with the sign language letters like Mrs. Hubbard taught us for the Grandmother's Tea 15 years ago (I feel old that I can say something happened 15 years ago). Then I thought about memorizing The Night Before Christmas, and how I can still recite ALL the colors in Joseph's technicolor dream coat, and about how everything in her room was Mary Englibright, and how special we felt when we got to take a handful of Jolly Ranchers (which for our little five-year-old hands, couldn't have been more than about 8 pieces), and how we loved to visit her classroom as a helper when we were older. Mrs. Hubbard was an amazing teacher and I am so grateful for her influence in my life.

Gotta love Mary Englbright.

Rasputin

So today in Poly Sci we learned about Rasputin. And when I say learned about, I mean my Professor mentioned him for about 5 seconds in passing during a discussion about Tsar Nicholas. Anyway, he was a crazy, corrupt, pretend-monk, magic-practicing advisor to the Tsar. When I hear Rasputin, the villain from the movie Anastasia comes to mind (which, by the way, I can't believe they made a kids movie about an entire family being brutally murdered).

This is what I mean. How creepy is that dude?? When in fact this is the real Rasputin. Who is not much better than the cartoon.

So the thought train had started and I turned to the only place to find about random historical events:  Wikipedia. Because while kids' movies are awfully entertaining, they sometimes teach misconceptions about history. For example, Rasputin, however creepy he might be, didn't curse the Romanov's. It was the Bolshevik Secret Police at the order of Lenin (thanks, Wikipedia). And while we all love Dimitri, he either didn't exist or died with the rest of the servants in the basement of their prison house. So sorry to ruin Anastasia for you, but I think the historical account is pretty entertaining to. Fun fact: the last to die were all the Tsar's daughters because they had sewn 1.3 kilos of diamonds and precious gems into the lining of their dresses to keep them from Lenin, and the jewels deflected the bullets and bayonets.

Sorry if this was a bit grim, but it fascinates me. So to lighten the mood, here is a video of everyone's favorite song from Anastasia.

Ultra Rando.

So I'm in the library and I'm all done with my work but SOMEBODY  wants to stay till it closes at midnight so he can hear them play U2 to wake everybody up to leave. So now I will blog to pass the time, even though I don't have anything to say. Bear with me.

You know you have been in the library too long when Kass starts yelling at the vacuum people. We become terrors late at night.

To pass the time, we are listening to Disney pandora and eating Hi-chews. We have been on quite the Disney kick as of late.

Still 20 minutes till the music starts. Very bored.

So last week, we found this new awesome app game called Draw Some. Its like if Pictionary and Words With Friends had a baby. But now mine is broken for some reason and won't let me play so get to hear about all the crazy pictures people draw for eachother. I have serious Draw Something FOMO.

Here is an awesome picture of a Grandpa from when my game worked. Side-note:  I know the letters don't spell Grandpa. Long story.

Today was Pi day. It kind of made me miss high school math. Trust me, know one is more surprised than me to hear me say those words. But they were pie-ing professors up the wazoo outside the Wilk and someone recited 900 digets of pi. That's what I experienced as I ate lunch on the grass with my friends. Pi day, BYU style.

Wow, this is for sure the most scatterbrained thing I have ever written so hope everyone can follow. Have a good evening!

Update:  no U2 was even played. Eat your heart out Maeser.

Cinderelly

My friends and I decided to go old school and watch Cinderella. Surprisingly, we remembered the words to every song--even the mispronunciations and gibberish for words we didn't know as kids. It was just as magical as I remember it being as a little girl.

Winnie the Pooh

So call me old-school, but I am hooked on Seventies music. It all started a very long time a go when I would drive with my dad in his truck and we would listen to James Taylor and John Denver. They will forever remind me of home and of my daddy. So, when I get homesick I like to listen to them as previously mentioned on this blog. But here's the catch: I don't have that many songs by either of them in my library so I decided to make a James & John Pandora (its very good, if you care to listen to it). For all you dinosaurs who don't understand Pandora, it chooses music for you based on the type of station you create. So, I ended up with a lot of seventies music. One of the songs it chose for me was House at Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins. I love this song because it used to play on one of Lauren's lullaby CD's. It also reminded me of the Pencil and her obsessive love for all things Piglet and the little stuffed animals we would collect at Disneyland. Childhood was awesome.
